John Ingle: General Hospital Actor Dies

John Ingle. Father, Husband, Actor, Friend...

The legendary soap opera star, John Ingle has died this week. People and fans all across the industry mourn the passing of a man who played Edward Quartermaine for two decades. The cast and crew of ABC's "General Hospital" expressed their deep sadness and love for a man who was described by many as a brillant actor who always professional onset. Off the stage, many describe this legend as a incredibly loving human being who just by being himself in the world, made it a much better place to live and work in. Tweets flooded the web yesterday as news of his death surface, causing his co-stars and many fans to blow up the web in many messages of appreciation and sadness. John Ingle was 84 years old, at the time of his death this week.

John Ingle's last performance aired on "General Hospital" last week. The actor exited the show in an extremely moving manner that affected pivotal characters in the story arc. Although the actor appeared frail and did appear to be very sick, his spirit as an actor still showed through his last scenes ever in life as an actor. No word has come yet, how the veteran's death will affect the character's run in the fictional town of Port Charles. Recasts might be expected as the character is still being refered to as still being alive on the canvas, even though the man who so gracefully played him has left the world and the soap opera forever. Many fans are hoping that the actor's death will also reuinite him with Lila Quartermaine, who has long since passed from the soap's scenes. Lila was Edward's great love of his life, and many feel that it is only right, that these two characters be reuinited in soap opera heaven together. Should the role be retired with John Ingle? That remains to be seen but one thing is for sure, both John Ingle and the character of Edward Quartermaine are a part of the soap's long-lasting legacy forever.

Edward Quartermaine, along with the man who played him so effortlessly were among my favorite characters on television. My heart was deeply saddened when I learned of his passing yesterday, but I will always remember he and his character with deep fondness and appreciation. He was one of the good ones, may he rest in peace. Good-bye, Edward. I will miss you.
